CES 2015: Asus unveils ZenFone 2 smartphone with 4GB RAM

CES 2015: Asus unveils ZenFone 2 smartphone with 4GB RAM
The phone comes with a new ergonomic design, a 5.5-inch Full HD and a (1280x1920p) IPS display with a wide 178-degree viewing angle.
LAS VEGAS: Asus has launched the second iteration of its ZenFone series, unveiling the ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML), its new flagship smartphone at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

The phone comes with a new ergonomic design, a 5.5-inch Full HD and a (1280x1920p) IPS display with a wide 178-degree viewing angle. Asus claims its TruVivid technology enhances display performance more with brighter colors. The display has a narrow 3.3mm bezel, giving ZenFone 2 a 72% screen-to-body ratio, and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The ZenFone 2 is powered by an up to 2.3GHz 64-bit Intel Atom processor Z3580 and has 4GB RAM to deliver up to seven times faster gaming performance than its predecessor. According to the company, the phone's 60ms touch response time ensures lag-free input, and OpenGL 3.0 provides enhanced gaming performance.

The ZenFone 2 has built-in 4G/LTE connectivity for faster data speeds of up to 150Mbit/s in addition to 802.11ac Wi-Fi high-speed Wi-Fi. The phone supports Dual-SIM with Dual Active mode, allowing users to have two active phone lines on their device. It will come in 16,32 and 64GB storage variants.

ASUS ZenFone 2 sports a 13MP PixelMaster camera with an f/2.0 wide-aperture lens, and a 'real tone' flash for warm skin tones and accurate colour, as per the company's claims.

ZenFone 2 is also equipped with a 5MP front-facing camera with a wide, 85-degree field of view for taking selfies.

The phone runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with a new version of Asus ZenUI — which has a fully-customizable interface — and Trend Micro security software.

ZenFone 2 comes with a high-capacity, 3000mAh battery that provides more than a full day of use on a single charge as per the company. The phone's fast-charge technology enables recharges to 60% battery level in 39 minutes.

Asus ZenFone 2 has an all-new design with a brushed-metal finish and concentric-circle detailing. ZenFone 2 introduces a curved case that tapers to 3.9mm at the edges. It also has a rear-mounted volume control key — ideally-positioned for the user's index finger as per the company.

The ZenFone 2 will come in Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamor Red and Ceramic White colours.

Asus ZenFone 2 prices start from $199 (2GB RAM/16GB storage), VAT excluded. Availability information has not been revealed yet.

Motorola announces its DROID Turbo with 21 MP camera on verizon

Motorola announces its DROID Turbo with 21 MP camera on verizon

Basically a smaller Nexus 6, the DROID Turbo does come with a few goodies. There is that 21 MP camera with a dual LED flash. Verizon wanted to differentiate its Motorola offering so it decided to skip on the dual LED ring flash. The US carrier seems to be happy with a big camera lens that is flanked on both sides by two tiny flash modules.

Next up is the that Snapdragon 805 processor, which so far has made an appearance only on the Nexus 6 by Google. While we have yet to check out the true potential of this chipset, we can easily say that it is a bit better than the the 801 found on most flagship smartphones available today. Moto also managed to pack in a Quad HD display and its Turbo Charging tech along with a metallized glass fibre with a high-strength aluminium Dupont Kevlar® back cover.

As for the rest of the specs of the DROID Turbo, they are as follows:
  • There is a 5.2 inch pixel dense 2560 x 1440 pixels AMOLED 565 ppi display
  • Inside we get a 2.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 (APQ8084) coupled with 3 GB of RAM
  • The smartphone will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB options
  • On the back is a 21 MP sensor with the two LED flash modules, while the front-facing unit gets treated to a 2MP unit
  • We get 4G LTE/3G, WiFi 802.11a/g/b/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0 for the radios
  • The device weighs a hefty 169 gms but that forgiveable when you consider the 3900 mAh battery, all packaged into a slim water-resistant design
The Verizon DROID Turbo will be sold only in the US on contract for 199 USD (12,201 INR) for the 32 GB version and 249 USD (15,267 INR) for the 64 GB version on contract. The 599 USD (36, 727 INR off contract) handset comes in Metallic Black, Metallic Red or Ballistic Nylon versions and will go on sale shortly.

Wearable exoskeleton lets you sit in thin air

Wearable exoskeleton lets you sit in thin air
FIONA MACDONALD
SATURDAY, 23 AUGUST 2014
Sick of not getting a seat on the train? Now thanks to the Chairless Chair exoskeleton, you can wear your own.
Meet the Chairless Chair, an exoskeleton that attaches to your legs and lets you sit down, literally, in thin air.
When the aluminium and carbon fibre device is switched, you can walk around as usual, but when you want to sit, the device uses battery-powered mechanics to channel your body weight into the heels of your shoes. All you have to do is bend your knees to the height you’d like to sit at, hit a button and, voila, you’re sitting sans chair.
Created by Swiss start-up noonee, the exoskeleton is still in prototype form and looks pretty chunky, but developers are working on creating a version so thin you can wear it inconspicuously under your pants. This current model weighs around 2 kg and can run at least eight hours on one charge. There’s no word on price as yet.
For people who sit down all day at a desk the device might not sound too useful, but it could help those who are on their feet all day working in factories, warehouses or kitchens, and who are at risk of muscular and skeletal health problems.
It’s not all about comfort either - exoskeletons are also being used to help people with spinal injuries walk, and in the future this kind of research could translate into therapeutic benefits for patients with mobility issues.
